I love my morning tea brews! As both an herbalist and as someone recovering from a chronic illness, morning tea before breakfast is a daily ritual. And especially in the last two plus years, amidst that which has plagued us, having more immune and herbal support has been essential. There are so many delicious, beautiful and bountiful options to choose from, but I do have my favorites. 🙂 Here are some of my favorite morning tea recipes…!
Yerba Mate Brew
Organic Yerba Mate
Coconut Milk, Almond Milk or Lactose Free Half and Half
Reishi Tincture and/ or Usnea Tincture
Stevia extract
Yerba Mate has been one of my favorite Covid time morning brews, because it is naturally rich in Quercetin. Quercetin is a potent antioxidant, which is both anti inflammatory and has anti microbial properties, among other things. Quercetin has therefore been said to be potentially helpful in the prevention and treatment of Covid. Read more here…
For my MCS readers, Quercetin has also been useful in many recovery protocols.
To give this tea an even further health boost, I love adding herbal tinctures. Two of my favorites are Reishi tincture and Usnea tincture. Reishi is powerful for immune system and lung support and strengthening. Usnea is powerfully anti microbial and immune supportive and it clears and strengthens the lungs. As always, please do your own research or speak to a holistic practitioner, about what herbs would be best for you and why.
And finally, adding a little plant based milk or cream makes this tea absolutely delicious! I personally use zero glycemic sweeteners. My favorite is Stevia extract in tea, although I also like monk fruit sweetener. Yerba Mate does contain caffeine, so please be aware of this if you are sensitive!
Medicinal Mushroom Hot Chocolate
Scorpio Tea: Magical Mushroom Hot Chocolate
Coconut Milk, Almond Milk or Lactose Free Half and Half
Stevia extract
Hazelnut Collagen Powder with Lion’s Mane (optional)
This is a decadently, delicious morning brew with so many health benefits. My handcrafted Magical Mushroom Hot Chocolate contains a powerful blend of 4 health supporting medicinal mushrooms; reishi, chaga, cordyceps and lion’s mane. The cacao does of course contain caffeine, but along with the medicinal mushrooms, this brew provides a balanced mental clarity and energy to start your day. If you want to really have your eyes roll into the back of your head, try adding Further Food’s Hazelnut Collagen powder to your brew. You’ll thank me! Trust me! Herbal “Coffee” Blend (No Caffeine!!!)
Aries Tea: Spring Cleanse Herbal Coffee Blend
Reishi Tincture (optional)
Coconut Milk, Almond Milk or Lactose Free Half and Half
Stevia extract
Aries Tea: Spring Cleanse Herbal Coffee is a personal favorite of my hand crafted blends. It is so soooper nutritious and delicious, loaded with vitamins and minerals. This rootsy blend containing dandelion root, burdock root, marshmallow root, roasted carob, chicory, vanilla and maca can mimic the flavor of coffee nicely, without the jolt of caffeine. Maca also helps to provide a natural and balanced energy. This herbal “coffee” blend is also a great cleansing and detoxifying morning tea. I love it! Add reishi tincture for the added health benefits. Add your choice of milk and sweetener and you have yourself a hearty and perfect morning brew!
Chaga Chai
Sagittarius Tea: Tis the Season Super Chai
Coconut Milk, Almond Milk or Lactose Free Half and Half
Stevia extract
Reishi Tincture (optional)
In the colder months, Chaga Chai is the perfect way to start the day. Warming and spicy, anti viral and detoxifying, this brew will give your immune system a nice boost and will gently cleanse your system of impurities. Also really great iced in the warmer months! The benefits of Chaga are mentioned in the medicinal mushroom article above. As always, you can add your choice of milk and sweetener. Coconut milk is really lovely in Chai. Add your shot of reishi tincture, if you so choose!
Nettles Tea!
Nettle Leaf: Freshly harvested or dried
Sometimes the best morning brew ever, is just a strongly brewed cup of Nettles tea! Nettle leaf is one of most mineral, vitamin and protein rich edible plants in the plant kingdom! Nettle Leaf is also gently detoxifying to the entire body. A perfect way to start the day! You can also add your choice of milk and/or sweetener to make what I call “Nettles Milk”. And sometimes I even like to mix it up and combine Nettles with my Yerba Mate brew. 🙂 Delicious and good! So many health benefits!!!
Lemon-Aid Tea or Rosy Pink Lemon-Aid Tea!
Lemon-Aid Tea or Rosy Pink Lemon-Aid Tea
Your Sweetener of choice!
This is one of my new favorite morning tea brews! It can be sipped iced or hot depending on your preference and current climate! This tea is super rich in Vitamin C and is also calming and uplifting. It is a great natural option for receiving your daily dose of C. Vitamin C is an essential element for helping to keep our immune systems strong to support the body in warding of viruses and illness. It is also an essential component in any MCS recovery protocol! Drink the C and feel the benefits!!!
Add a little Stevia, honey or your sweetener of choice!
Pine Needle Tea Blend!!!
Aquarius Tea: Breathe Deep Into Community Blend
Milk and sweetener of choice (Pine Needle infused honey is divine!!!)
This is one of my newest and most favorite morning tea blends!!! I recently moved and have been super inspired and courted by the pines on the land I live on.
Ingredients: Pine Needles are super High in Vit C, they are a good source of Vitamin A and they elevate mood, brain health and mental clarity. They are also highly anti microbial, contain antioxidants and have a delicious lemony/pine taste! In most areas of the country, you can find some variation of edible pine trees to harvest from.
Nettles are one of the most nutritive plants in the plant world! The Green Goddess! Loaded with essential vitamins and minerals, they are also a great source of Quercetin, antioxidants and are anti inflammatory.
Green Tea: Great source of Quercetin and is a rich source of vitamins and antioxidants. Contains caffeine which can be energizing.
Spearmint: Breathe deeply into the minty goodness! High in antioxidants, good for women’s hormonal balance, helps reduce stress. Plus, delicious. 🙂
An amazing way to start the day! The healthier we are as individuals, the more deeply we can breathe into community and co-immunity!!!
