My Story…

Hi everybody! Thank you for joining me on my new website. I wanted to create a space where I could bring everything together that I’m currently offering. The name Shining Portal Wellness encompasses the spectrum of my work. Shining Portal: drawing from connection to Source/Spirit/Cosmos for guidance, spiritual information and energetic healing. Wellness: drawing from the Earth, from a holistic, physical, embodied place; incorporating herbs, good nutrition and a healthy, non toxic lifestyle.

Oh the epic bio…here we go! I have lived many incarnations in one lifetime, for sure! In 2006 however, my life took a drastic turn. I was diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) which changed the course of my life’s path and work…

At the time before illness, I was a successful, performing singer/songwriter. I was also a ritual facilitator/creator and was serving as a priestess in my SF Bay Area community. I created an active women’s temple called Mishkan Elat (Temple of the Hebrew Goddess), which was dedicated to earth based practices and resurrecting the divine feminine in the Hebrew/Jewish lineage. I was co-facilitating services and rituals with progressive Jewish synagogues and spiritual leaders in my community. I was also a student in the first Kohenet (Jewish Priestess) ordination program and was close to completion. I felt at the time that my life was on a profoundly destined and deeply fulfilling path. Although life took me in a different direction (as my grandmother used to say “people plan and god laughs”), I feel these experiences helped to shape the work I am doing today.

Before MCS, I worked in the natural health/food industry. I spent a summer in an ashram kitchen, cooking and doing meal prep, I worked at a raw food restaurant in NYC, I worked in several health food stores, including two jobs cooking for and managing the deli and I worked catering and food service jobs. I later started my own personal assistant and personal chef business, where I enjoyed cooking and meal prepping healthy food, both for busy families and for those who were chronically ill/ disabled. After becoming sick with MCS, I left California and lived in an MCS community in Snowflake AZ. I started a small local business there, called Ancestors Organic Homestead Foods. I made natural food items like kale chips, lacto fermented veggies, kombucha and gluten free breads. Mostly made to order, for my local MCS community. These experiences are all relevant to the natural food blogging I will be offering via the category, Mystic Crow’s Apothekitchen!

I have been extremely psychic, empathic and intuitive since I was a child and after a serious neck injury in 2005 (which predated the MCS diagnosis) my psychic abilities became almost overwhelming. I would have dreams that would come true, waking visions and premonitions of future events and could see into the past as if it were memories from this lifetime. This was in addition to already being highly empathic, telepathic and clairvoyant, among other things! As a priestess and musician, I was already communing and channeling from a spiritual place, but things started moving into an even deeper and more profound place. Over the years I have discovered ways to become more grounded and integrated with my abilities and I now utilize these abilities in the intuitive energy medicine sessions I offer.

My recovery journey with MCS propelled me to focus on healing at every level. Being so isolated, especially at my sickest (which happens with MCS because you need to avoid chemical triggers), forced me into a sort of hermetic lifestyle. Besides my spiritual and psychic life becoming richer, I delved deeper into herbalism and holistic nutrition for my recovery. I needed to do this for my survival. When I first got diagnosed with MCS, I was fortunate enough to have already been holistically minded and on a natural healing path. I was an avid reader and collector of herbal resource books, which provided me with all the information I needed on a science based level. But in addition to this, my intuition and psychic abilities became my best ally. The ability to be able to connect with my body and with the energy of herbs and foods, in order to discern what my body needed to function and recover, became an invaluable resource. And I had amazing healers in my life as well, who both understood the illness and were medically intuitive, who taught me so much about how to be more in touch with myself and who were supportive of my healing process. I can now share this intuitive resource with others, in the intuitive energy medicine sessions I offer.

After several years of self learning and discovery with herbs and nutrition for MCS healing, I was able to take my first herbal course. Living in Santa Fe in 2012, I took an outdoor salve and tincture making class and it made my spirit soar! I loved the creative process in connection with healing my body. Then, when living in Asheville in 2014, I took an online course with One World Healing Community. It was a Community Herbalist Course with Mimi Hernandez (Master Herbalist and Executive Director of the American Herbalist Guild). I received my first certificate this way as a Community Herbalist! In 2015 I continued my studies in Asheville, at the Appalachia School of Holistic Herbalism. Here I completed my second certificate, for their Foundations of Herbalism Course. I am also a long time student (currently on hiatus) of the Science and Art of Herbalism home study course, with Rosemary Gladstar.

In 2015, I started my natural and herbal product business called Mystic Crow’s Elemental Elixirs. For several years I vended at markets and I have an online Etsy shop as well. I also founded an MCS Herbal and Nutritional Remedies group on FB in 2014, which now hosts almost 3,500 members. I have been volunteering as primary facilitator of this group, since it’s inception. (see Community page for link to group).

During my many years of MCS recovery, I needed an outlet for my psychic, spiritual and creative life. During this time I started several blogs. One blog was a private poetry blog. I also created a YouTube channel to share my music. In 2010, I created a blog called Oracle of Now and the name later changed to Earth Changes Network. I shared channeled/psychic messages about Earth Changes and both practical and spiritual resources and information about how to best prepare. I created a Facebook Page and Group Forum for community discussion and support, as well. In 2015, Oracle of Now briefly became it’s own blog entity again as a space for channeled/psychic messages about Earth Changes and other spiritual topics, broadcasting “Live from the Ethers”. I plan to pick up my “Live From the Ethers” category again, on my current blog.

I am also an Astrologer! I have been a self taught student since 1994. I also studied Astrology (including Medical Astrology) at The Avalon Institute in Boulder, Colorado in 1999-2000. I have incorporated my love for and connection with Astrology into my writing, healing sessions and herbal work. Including creating a line of Astrological Herbal Tea Blends, which you can check out in my Etsy Shop.

Which brings us to now! The last year and a half has been very difficult for most of us. I personally needed deeper spiritual tools to heal and manage my state of being during these times. I found a great healer and teacher online who I connected with, Sarah Louise Tilsley of Reikidreams. I completed my first level of Reiki-Seichim with her in May 2021 and finished the second level in December 2021. Reiki-Seichim is a wonderful form of Reiki, incorporating ancient Egyptian healing energies and nature based elements. Its a perfect fit for me. I am now offering Reiki-Seichim sessions for an affordable, sliding scale fee.

And finally, the college degree! I graduated from Naropa in 2001 with a degree in music and a minor in dance. Beforehand, I attended Webster University for Musical Theater and NYU for Music. My “dance” minor included studying and practicing Tai Chi, Yoga, Body Mind Centering and many forms of dance such as Belly Dance and African Dance. My music degree was a time for song writing, improving my guitar skills, learning about myself and finding my true voice. I was also fortunate to learn spiritual and healing practices from several great teachers; including shamanic journeying with Sandra Ingerman and grief work with Sobonfu Some. It was a powerful education, that I am so grateful I received. My time at Naropa provided me with essential tools and resources for being on a spiritual path of healing and with a deep reserve to draw from, for the times we’re in.

So that’s a bit of my story! I truly believe that the healing we experience and go through as individuals, we can then turn around and offer back to our communities. I have so much to offer and look forward to serving you. Please see my Services page, for my current offerings. Also please sign up for my Blog, to receive notifications for posts. And please click the Contact Me button below, to ask me any questions. Many blessings and thanks for being here!
